Let's DIY A Personal Brand Logo In Canva (For FREE!)

Sign up for a FREE account. I highly recommend trying PRO for free for 30 days. So many awesome design features. You’ll get access to professional images, videos, graphics and more.

If you’re on social media and want to present your brand in a cohesive way, the social media templates are BOMB!

I highly recommend Canva, obviously. Ha! I also use Canva daily in my business.

Determine What type of logo you'll want to create in canva

When you’re first starting out, I highly recommend you steer clear of any busy/complicated or symbol oriented logo designs.

Actually, I will take it a step further and suggest you to use a very simple text font or combination of fonts. Definitely do not pay for a logo (yet), unless you feel you’re ready for that.

Your goal is to create a logo that works for now in order to get you LAUNCHED.

A logo shouldn’t be your priority right now. Once you’ve started growing and you are making money with your brand, definitely LEVEL UP at that time.

Plus, you’ll know what you want and can find a professional to help you create EXACTLY what you’re looking for. I highly recommend Fiverr, as you can find ANYTHING there.

It will be my first stop when I’m ready to hire a ghost writer, a Pinterest strategist and a youtube video creator for Girl Planted.

Option One: Choose A Design Template

On a desktop computer, login to your Canva dashboard and then click on Create A Design.

In the search bar type LOGO. Choose the first option.

Tons of designs will show up on the left side of your screen. In the search bar, located just above the designs, you can type in your niche or keywords that help identify your brand colors or vibe.

Your search will stay within the logo category.

Once you’ve found a design you love, click on it to get the logo template to your design window. That’s where you’ll click on one element at a time to change the text and change the colors.

Option Two: Choose A Text Template

If you want ONLY text for your logo, type TEXT into the search bar once you’ve already chosen a logo design template, after logging into your Canva dashboard

Tons of text only logos should pop up on the left side of your screen.

You can choose one of those or you can choose TEXT located on the very far lefthand side. Click on Add A Heading then type whatever you’d like, right into the design window. Next, you can manually change the font (top of design window, left) and play with different looks and styles.

If you want to take it a little further, click on the text located inside the design window and with it highlighted, choose EFFECTS. This is where you can really play and find something you love.

There’s honestly SO many design tools you can use inside of Canva. It will take a bit to get used to everything and I still learn something new every time I login.

My honest advice as a Graphic Designer and Brand Strategist (for 10 years now) is to keep things simple and get a logo designed so you can launch. You can always go back and tweak later or purchase a logo if you want to.

When you are finished with your logo design, click on SHARE (top right of the page).

Choose DOWNLOAD and then choose the size you want. 500 x 500 is standard. Resize and tweak to fit new dimensions if you wish. If you want a clear background, click the box that says TRANSPARENT BACKGROUND. Then DOWNLOAD PNG.

FAQ: Can I DIY A Logo In Canva On Mobile?

YES! You can design on the Canva mobile app, pretty much anything, but the instructions are a bit different and depending on the complexity of the design, it might be a bit tough to design on a smaller screen vs. a desktop.
