What Is Plant-Based Eating?

So around here, plant-based means MOST of the foods you eat are from plant sources. They grow on a tree, a vine, in the ground, etc. These foods include fruits, vegetables, whole grains, seeds, nuts, legumes and beans. Oils are included, too! 

Plant-based also means that if the foodie wants to, they can incorporate smaller amounts of animal products, like meat, fish, seafood, eggs and even dairy.

I personally strive for a 90% plant-based diet while the other 10% is organic eggs, wild-caught seafood and a tiny bit of cheese when I opt to eat a delish, simple, leafy green salad.

Plant Based For Beginners | My Advice: Don’t let the concept of eating a plant-based diet get complicated. Keep it simple by starting out slowly + gradually. Make great choices come time to make a decision of what to eat. Remind yourself (out loud) that you CAN do this! Then take action and support yourself.

Before committing to a healthier lifestyle, I struggled with binge-eating, often reaching for something sugary, high in carbohydrates and in calories.

I’d feel so great while eating them (turns out my ADHD brain was searching for dopamine) and almost immediately after, felt like poo. It was a vicious cycle that lasted well over a decade.

So how did I even start eating healthier, when all I wanted to do (and honestly had gotten used to doing) was eat convenient, greasy fast food and an entire package of cookies?

I started eating simple, leafy green salads and started making one healthy choice at as time.

What's A Salad, Anyway?

sal·ad /ˈsaləd/ noun

Raw greens combined with other vegetables and toppings that are served with dressing OR small pieces of food like pasta, meat, fruit & vegetables mixed with a dressing or set in gelatin.

A simple salad is how I started my plant-based diet beginner journey.  Here are a few of my favorites.
